Benefits of Basil - more than just taste!

We've all tasted basil in one form or another and recognize it by its aroma and oval, green leaves. Many people have probably tasted some of the 60 different varieties of basil. Yet, how many of us know that basil is a powerful antioxidant and can positively power your diet? Basil protects against the damages of free radicals and this helps fight cell aging. Basil is rich in vitamin B, magnesium and beta-carotene. The beta-carotene becomes vitamin A when we consume basil. Beta-carotene helps prevent cholesterol oxidation thereby protecting our cardiovascular system. Magnesium promotes a healthy cardiovascular system - blood vessel muscles relax, blood flow is stimulated and the risk of arrhythmia is lowered.

Basil's natural oils aid the immune system and contain both antiseptic and antibacterial properties.

Hint - use fresh basil because it has a stronger taste. Add basil to your food after cooking and it will keeps its taste.
